Puppeteering for Improvisers
Join Electric City Puppets for a crash course in performing improv with puppets. You’ll learn how to make the most ordinary inanimate objects come to life and delight your audience. Using hand and rod style puppets we'll share our insights on how to meet the unique challenges of improvising with a puppet on stage and explore movement and techniques that you can continue to use in your performances with or without a puppet on your hand. Each participant will receive a set of practice eyeballs to continue their puppeteering journey beyond the classroom!
Since 2016, Electric City Puppets has performed scripted and non-scripted theatre throughout the northeast, including at Ocean State Improv Festival, Proctors, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Capital Region Festival of Theatre, Schenectady Kids Art Festival and MopCo Improv Theatre. Their classes have been featured at Ocean State Improv Festival and at the Puppeteers of America Northeast Regional Puppetry Festival in Ithaca, NY. The artistic mission of ECP is to connect with people of all ages to the art of puppetry across multiple mediums. From the mayhem of Fuzzball, ECP’s comedy game show, to family programming and shadow puppet burlesque, these performers draw on decades of experience in improv as well as professional puppetry, theatre and film to make audiences laugh and cry, preferably in that order. ECP is a proud member of the Puppetry Guild of Upstate New York and Puppeteers of America.
This workshop will have two separate sessions, both at the Phoenix Theater in the Blue Room. This is not a two day workshop.
